Verizon Smart Phone or a Standard One Instead?

My contract is up and I'm looking for a better phone than my EnV 2 from Verizon. I've debated getting the Blackberry Bold 9650 simply because I like to overuse my calendar and stay organized. The $30 data plan is deterring me from choosing this one right away. I've considered other Verizon phones that only require the cheaper data plan but still have the QWERTY keyboard. Would it be worth it compromise?
