How can I make some friends?

I need help making some friends back home. I went to boarding school on the east coast (I live in California) for high school so all of my high school friends live around the country but mostly on the east side of the country. I go to college in Pennsylvania so, once again, all my friends, for the most part, live really far away from me. What ends up happening is that I come home, sit on my ***, and do pretty much nothing. It's not like I'm anti-social, I'm in a fraternity (Phi Sigma Kappa, damn proud) and other stuff at school so I it's not like I lack friend in general but because I don't really know anybody here, it's been very hard to make some good friends back home. One problem is that the things I like to do aren't necessarily the most social activities. I play guitar and drums and I sing (can't start a band if I don't know anybody), I'm also a bit of an amateur photographer and I'm really into design and architecture; all of these don't really involve other people to much when home. I do have a very slightly older brother and have managed to ingratiate myself with some of his friends, but I'd like some friends of my own and not be the "little brother that tags along to everything". Basically, my question is does anybody have some ideas to help me meet some people and make friends?
